Of Bartók and Balkans
May 13, 2021 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm
In this trio d’anches folk music tour, we will spotlight music from Eastern Europe, featuring Béla Bartók, the grandfather of Hungarian classical music, alongside several lesser known composers, Stan Golestan of Romania and Klement Slavický of the Czech Republic. In the latter half of the program, folk music remains a theme in French composer Darius Milhaud’s neoclassical Suite d’apres Corrette and English composer Matthew Locke’s early baroque Flatt Consort, both of which transform rustic dances of the 17th century. Oboist Leonid Sirotkin will make his debut NCMC appearance alongside Ivy Ringel and Nick Davies in this first ever reed trio performance.
