Suzanne Buerkle ,a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, is the former Professor of Flute at Southeastern Louisiana University, and is in her 8th year as Piccolo Player of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra. Recently she was appointed Principal flute of the South Florida Symphony Orchestra where she collaborates with talented musicians from all over the country.
Suzanne began her flute and piccolo studies with world renowned Piccoloist, Jack Wellbaum, of the Cincinnati Symphony and Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, followed by studies at Indiana University and University of Southern California with Teacher’s including Thomas Robertello and Jim Walker. While in her tenure in California she studied Yoga with Bikram Choudhury, and has been a certified Bikram Yoga instructor since 2004.
In addition to performing in Miami, New York, Boston and Los Angeles, Suzanne has helped to develop and run a music therapy program for children with autism in collaboration with the Baton Rouge Symphony. Between managing a touring orchestra, chamber and solo career out of town, when in town, she is the proud band director of St. Jude school, maintains a high level private flute studio in Baton Rouge and in Nantucket, MA with in person lessons and Virtual Maestro when off island, she teaches yoga, and teaches group flute lessons for Kid’s Orchestra.
